Medical Director
Dr Peter Solin MBBS, FRACP, PhD
Our team is led by leading sleep physician Dr Peter Solin. Dr Solin has extensive clinical experience in treating all forms of sleep disorders, with particular emphasis on the association between sleep and its effects on the cardiovascular system. He is currently the Director of the Cabrini-Brighton Private Hospital Sleep Laboratory and Director of Sleep Medicine at Maryvale Private Hospital.
Dr Solin has also been a pioneer in the growing awareness of sleep disorders in Australia. Between 2001 to 2005, he was the Clinical Chair of the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA). During this period, he has been involved in the joint ASA and Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) committee which drafted the ‘Guidelines for Sleep Studies in Adults’, as well as the Sleep Disorders Section of the ‘Assessing Fitness to Drive Guidelines’ for commercial drivers.
Dr Solin has devoted significant research efforts in sleep medicine and its association with cardiovascular disease. He was the recipient of multiple awards and research scholarships from the ASA, TSANZ, National Health and Medical Research Council and National Heart Foundation. He regularly publishes articles in international journals and has spoken at numerous national conferences and symposiums. In 2001, Dr Solin was awarded a Ph.D. in the area of ‘Central Sleep Apnoea in Heart Failure: Recognition and Pathogenesis’. This investigated the effects of sleep-related breathing abnormalities on the cardiovascular system. Dr Solin is also an Honorary Lecturer in Medicine at Monash University with an active respiratory and sleep disorders research program, and currently supervises a Ph.D. candidate investigating coronary artery blood flow during sleep.
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Chi-Jen Hsu MBBS, BSc(Med)(Hons), MMed, FRACP
Dr Hsu completed his advanced cardiology training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and is currently a research fellow conducting research into cardiac stem cells. He practices general cardiology with a keen interest in ischemic and valvular heart disease. He speaks Mandarin and Hokkien.
Consultant Respiratory & Sleep Physician
Dr Alistair Miller MBBS, FRACP
Dr Miller completed his respiratory and sleep disorders training at Monash Medical Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital, and is currently a research fellow conducting research into lung disease. His current clinical practice includes general medicine within the Southern Health Network and respiratory and sleep medicine at Mountain District Private Hospital.
